The following case is extracted from “The Art of Applying Comprehensive Metaphysics” Grand Dharma Function in Malaysia on 28 August 2011. Master Lu performed Totem Enquiries live on stage and answered questions from the audience to help them overcome difficulties in their health, career, and everyday issues.
When a person is asking Master Lu to perform Totem Enquiry, if a living person is being enquired, then the year of birth and the Chinese zodiac sign of that person should be stated. If a deceased person is being enquired, then the full name of the deceased and the exact written characters of the name should be stated.

Enquirer: Hi, Master Lu.
Master Lu: Hm.
Enquirer: I would like to ask…
Master Lu: Come a bit closer, come a bit closer.
Enquirer: I would like to enquire about a male, born in 1966, year of the Horse. I would like to ask about his health condition, and how many Little Houses are needed.
Master Lu: 1966, year of the Horse, right? Male. What would you like to ask?
Enquirer: Health condition.
Master Lu: Then, first of all, let me tell you, for the Horse born in 1966, regarding his health condition, there are two points. First, from his throat to his lungs, and his digestive system, there is black energy in these areas.
Enquirer: Yes, he smokes.
Master Lu: Smoking. Did you all hear that? More efficacious than the X-ray. For X-ray you need to line up for the appointment. Do you understand? This is the first point. The second point, his cervical vertebra and neck area are also not good. Do you understand? And the third point, later on in his old age, he would have prostatitis, because he currently experiences frequent and urgent urination. Understand? It’s like that.
Enquirer: How many Little Houses does he need?
Master Lu: For now, not a lot, you can start with reciting 8 Little Houses for him. Okay? Ask him to recite more Great Compassion Mantra (Ta Pei Chou). Alright? Recite 3 to 7 times per day.
Enquirer: Can I recite on his behalf?
Master Lu: Uh. Yes, you can. But it would be less effective. It would be best if you recite for yourself. You become full by eating your own meal. Right? If he’s hungry, and you say, “Honey, I will eat for you!” Then once you’re done, you ask, “Honey, are you full?” Your husband will definitely say, “I’m full!” But he is full of anger, not full of food. Don’t be silly. Wah, all of you are so good. I will keep talking today and won’t leave.
Enquirer: He doesn’t believe in the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door at the moment. What should I recite for him?
Master Lu: Recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching)for him, 7 times per day. “May the Great Merciful and Great Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva protect and bless my husband, <full name>, so that he will believe in Guan Yin Bodhisattva.” That will do. Recite the Heart Sutra (Hsin Ching) for him, 7 times per day. After a while, he will definitely believe in Guan Yin Bodhisattva. If that doesn’t work, lodge the Application for Convincing Family Members for him. Do you understand? Later on you can go to the front entrance and ask the volunteers. They have the forms. Okay? You don’t have to burn the form. You fill in his name and put the form on the altar. You recite for him, and after a period of time, he will definitely believe in Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Okay?

Master Lu: Ah, okay. Thank you.
